    Description

Vintage Gary Sugal JB 101 - 7 Tenor Saxophone metal sax mouthpiece - Loud & Warm!
This auction is for a vintage Gary Sugal JB 101 gold-plated mouthpiece. My understanding is that the “JB” stands for Jerry Bergonzi, and that these pieces were created by Gary Sugal between 1989 – 1993. I’m not sure of the tip measurement on this mouthpiece, but it’s marked as a 7, so I would expect it to be somewhere around .100, but that’s just a guess. Tip, rails and table look good, but there is some plating wear on the rails and tip. There’s also some plating wear and discoloration around the bite plate (see photos). However, none of this wear affects the playability of this mouthpiece. This auction is for the mouthpiece and ligature, as shown in the pics.
This is a great sounding mouthpiece. It’s quite loud but still maintains a nice, warm, sound. I bought this mouthpiece over 10 years ago and for most of that time it’s been sitting in a drawer unused (along with a bunch of other unused pieces). Now it’s time to clear out my mouthpiece drawer and move some of these pieces to more loving homes!
The markings (as I tried to capture in the pics) are “JB 101”, “7” and “6-00”. Here’s a description I found online regarding this particular model:
This 18 Karat Heavy Gold-plated brass mouthpiece preceded the Super Gonz series and is machined in house on a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) high tech computer controlled cutting machine. The JB I model is designed around "other" conventional mouthpieces which are "narrow or "streamlined" in design. This model is known for and features our exclusive "duck bill" tip. The JB I has a medium to large size chamber. The JB offers the "traditional" as well as the "contemporary" artist a rich powerful centered sound with a "slight edge". Reminiscent of a fat Dexter sound with a "Breckerish" attitude the JB I model has a full dynamic centered sound and has the ability to offer fantastic sub-tones as well as ease of playability in the altissimo range. Originally designed in collaboration with Jerry "The Gonz" Bergonzi this model has been recently modified to suit the needs of both the "traditional" as well as the "contemporary" player. The JB model has also been played and endorsed by professional musicians and educators such as Dave Liebman, Jerry Bergonzi, Joe Viola, Jerry Stubberfiled, Jerry Coker, Geoff Maton, and many others.
I’m starting the auction at just .99! Shipping will be and I only ship to the lower 48 states – no shipping to Alaska or Hawaii and no International Shipping. All sales are final – no returns. I expect payment within 48 hours of the end of the auction, or I reserve the right to relist the item. Thanks for looking and good luck on your bidding!
